writer's block

So much running around in my head, but nothing wants to come out. The things that need to be said can't be exposed, especially in such a public place. So for now, I'll just keep trying to organize my thoughts and if anyone is reading this, your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Modern Technology

This is a new test. I downloaded an app to my phone that lets me blog on the go. If it works...great. If it doesn't ... uninstall. The one drawback I see right now is making more typos thanks to the small virtual keyboard. However, if that bothers you, feel free to read my first post and let it go.

If this works, it'll be great for on-the-go blogging...especially on my next New Orleans trip next month. Woot woot!

Getting Back on Track

Well, it's been some time since I wrote anything on here.  I thought I was going to write every day or at least a couple of times a week, but noooooo . . . so . . . let's get back on track.

It's been an interesting summer.  I went to New Orleans with my best childhood friend.  We had a blast.  It started out with 8 of us and ended up only being the 2 of us.  No worries though . . . we had a blast and met some people there that we will probably be friends with for many years to come.  We went to a place called the Cat's Meow (of course, I'd rather call it the Kat's Meow--LOL) and karaoked almost every night.  We saw almost all of NOLA and ate everything that we had on our lists.  It was so very awesome.

The rest of the summer was rather dull in comparison, but still a relaxing time and enjoyable nonetheless.

Now, I'm planning a family trip back home to Indiana for next summer.  We need to have some celebrations--my husband & I will have our 15th year wedding anniversary, my in-laws 45th wedding anniversary, my mother-in-law's 70th birthday, 10 year anniversary of my dad's passing, and a few months after that is my father-in-law's 75th birthday.  I think that calls for celebration, don't you? 

Well--the Man is still hedging on the trip.  I told him it's a done deal.  He doesn't appreciate that.  Ah well . . . .

I'm also trying to plan a trip to NYC with the same friend (let's call her Sis) and visit Husband #2 while there.  Story--every woman needs 2 husbands . . . the regular one (that gets on her nerves) and a gay one who will go to the Ice Capades (sp?) with her.  Husband #2 is the latter.  He has an apartment that is 9 feet by 30 feet and we are all going to squeeze in there for a few days.  It'll be awesome!

So . . . let's see where we go from here.

What do you mean I'm not 25?

I notice that I didn't post anything the entire month of April.  There's a reason for that . . . I turned 45!  Ugh . . . .

I really don't think much about age.  But, this birthday has done me in.  I look in my mirror and I see the 25 year old (THIN) girl that moved to So Cal in 1990 (actually, I was 24).  And then reality hits . . . I'm not 25, I'm <gulp> 45!  What does this actually mean?

1.  I'm officially old enough to be the mother of most professional basketball, baseball, and football players.

2.  I'm old enough to be the mother of any college student and possibly grandmother of some.

3.  I'm old enough to be the mother of any high school student and technically old enough to be the grandmother of most of them.

4.  I'm old enough to be the grandmother of any junior high or elementary student. (The Boy goes to junior high in the Fall.)

5.  My mother informed me that in 10 years, I'll officially be a senior citizen, and in 5 years, can join AARP.  Thanks, Mom!

6.  My perfect skin now needs more help.  I've always moisturized, but now, I've added SPF 100 to my daily routine and I wear a big, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm hat outside.

7.  My naturally blonde hair now needs help and doesn't look natural, so I've gone Cherry Truffle.  Looks good, but not as thick as it used to be either.  :(

I'm really trying to embrace my age, but not be all "old."  I'm no longer looking at young girl fashions, ala Miley Cyrus, but trying to avoid the mature older woman, ala Helen Mirren (although I hope I look as good as she does when I'm her age!).  So where do I fall?  Let's see . . . Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Jenn Aniston, Courtney Cox, Diane Lane, Cindy Crawford, Janet Jackson, Brooke Shields, and Cindy Crawford are all about the same age (give or take a couple of years).  Then there is Madonna and Demi Moore.  Ok ladies, you are now inspiring me.  I shall create a collage of photos of these women to keep me upbeat.

We'll see how this goes.

EVERYTHING happens for a reason

You hear this all the time . . . everything happens for a reason.  I happen to be one of those people that truly believe that.  There are times that I can't fathom the reason (as you'll see), but usually, it comes clear pretty soon.

Last week was Spring Break.  We (the Family) were supposed to go to Washington, DC; however, financially, that really became impossible.  So--we did a "staycation."  The Family went to Las Vegas for 2 days, the Boy and I went to Universal Studies Hollywood (and took his BFF), and then, the Boy and I went to Knott's Berry Farm.  There were shopping trips and and swimming days in between.  This is the good part of living in Southern California--there is always something to do.

I was feeling kind of bummed to go to Vegas instead of DC.  Afterall, I go to Vegas regularly with my Girlfriends.  But, I have a good friend who was in Vegas.  She wasn't there for fun though.  Her oldest son had a horrific accident while riding his quad.  He went headfirst into a concrete culvert, no helmet.  His facial bones and some skull bones were crushed.  He was airlifted to a hosptial in Vegas, underwent surgeries, and on Easter Sunday had a minor stroke.  You can imagine the agony she and the rest of the family have been going through.  So, when she called me and asked if I could take her younger son back to California when we went back. Eureka!  This is why we couldn't go to DC.

So, while I still don't know why this family has to undergo this horrible ordeal, but one day that too will be made clear.  Maybe not to me as it isn't mine to know, but hopefully, it will be made clear to them and more importantly, I pray for his full and speedy recovery.

The Joys (?) of Motherhood

You know, I try to be a good mother.  Most days I do a pretty good job . . . at least I think so.  But then, the Boy will say to me, "Mom--I know I have to do my homework and I know I have to do my responsibility list.  You never talk to me except to tell me to do my homework and list.  It's annoying."  Of course, if you are a mom, you know you're doing your job when your child tells you these things.

So, we struck a deal.  I won't tell him to do his responsibility list, and he'll do it automatically and update it daily.  If he doesn't update it by the time I get up the next day, I take money off his allowance.  Now--this is a simple concept.  The list is on the front door.  He has certain responsibilities each day and he has to mark them off each day (no do-overs on following days unless he negotiates it first).  He starts off with a potential of $12 and for each task he doesn't mark, he loses $1.50.  Note--until this past week, it was $10 and $1 if not marked, but he had a birthday.

You would think that he would try to prove to me that he can handle this since that was his entire argument.  But NOOOOOOO, he hasn't done one task since then and has lost his entire allowance for this week and is cutting into prior weeks that he already earned, but hasn't yet gotten paid.  I think that's fair, don't you?  If he is "responsible" enough to do it on his own, he is "responsible" enough to take the consequences.

I Hate Being Sick! Or Do I?

  I was feeling a bit achy with a sore throat when I went to bed and then, I tossed and turned half the night.  I got up an hour earlier than my alarm is set to go off and I took a hot bath.  Well, I took a luke warm bath, because after all, the first tub of the day isn't that hot.  Damn water heater!

I was going to call in sick, but realized I had a few things that absolutely had to get done or I would fret all day and not get well.  So, I tried to get to work early.  I ended up arriving only a half hour early.  Damn traffic!

I told my Bossman (I love my boss!) that I wasn't feeling well and he said he thought I was starting to get sick yesterday.  You see--he gave me my annual performance review yesterday.  It was awesome, but he's right.  By the end of our meeting, I was run down and tired.  By the time I got home, my throat was scratchy and my back was achy.  By the time I got up this morning, my cheeks, head, ears, throat, even my eyelashes hurt.  Damn sinuses!

Anyway, I did the things I needed to do.  And honestly?  They could have waited, but I had it built up in my head that I needed to get things done.  Damn work ethic!  (Nevermind that I could have done everything from my laptop at home.)  So, I left work at 11:30 am.  I got home about 12:45 pm. 

I took my Benedryl and Advil which left me stoned for the last several hours, but I finished a good book (lots of sex), watched the Lakers game (we won), and caught up on Facebook.  I even dozed a bit here and there.  So you would think that this is a good thing, right?  Wrong!

Ladies, you know how it is.  When our men are sick (men or boys), we wait on them hand and foot and pamper them.  But when we are sick, we still need to do it all ourselves.  Well, I stopped that crap a long time ago.  If I'm sick, you'd better leave me alone unless I've asked you to bring me something.

The Man did fix me dinner.  Point to him.

The Boy wanted to hang all over me and irritate the crap out of me!  Then, I told him at least 6 times to finish his homework and his responsibility list before his vocal lesson.  Tuesdays are minimum days, so he had 4 hours to do his homework and responsibility list before his vocal lesson.  He did NOTHING!  Several points minus to him.

And then . . . the Man and the Boy came into my room to ask me questions.  Apparently, they were on two different topics though, because they each kept asking questions rapidly, not allowing me to answer any of them.  I finally blew up and threw them out of my room.  Several minus points to both of them.

But now, it is quiet and my head is starting to hurt again.  I think I'll take some more of the yummy drugs and go to bed.
